Lands Department

With the passage of the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act, Paug-Vik, Inc., Ltd. was given entitlement to approximately 115,000 acres of land surrounding the Naknek/King Salmon area, including land on the West Side of the Kvichak River. Below is a map of the lands that were designated as village selected lands.

Land Programs

5-acre Shareholder Program

The deadline for participation in the 5-acre shareholder program was 1987, so if you have not made your selection and/or paid your lease and survey fees, you are no longer eligible to participate in this program. Please see the General Manager for details on specific program requirements or to bring your account up to date.

Option A: Lease

This option allows a shareholder with 100 or more Paug-Vik shares to lease up to 5 acres of village selected lands for a period of 99 years.

Option B: Purchase

Under this option, shareholders are eligible to purchase their 5-acre lease selections at fair market value. Terms may be negotiated, but will be handled on a case-by-case basis by the Board of Directors during their regular monthly meeting. Please see the General Manager if this is an option you would like to pursue.

Land Use Program

To allow for lawful entry upon village lands, Paug-Vik has instituted a Land Use permitting system. Land Use Permits are available for sale from the Paug-Vik, Inc., Ltd. offices in Naknek and from the Chinook Gift Shop in King Salmon. The permit is good for one year of authorized entry upon unleased Paug-Vik land for subsistence and recreational purposes or professional guiding. Trappers must secure a Trapping Access Permit prior to any trapping activity. No other commercial uses are allowed.

Land Leases and Sales

If you are interested in either leasing or purchasing Paug-Vik lands, please contact our General Manager and provide your preference for location, zoning, and intended use. We will respond to your request in a timely manner and do our best to accommodate your needs.
